Why Botox and Dysport is Perfect for Forehead Lines
Nothing ages the face quite like forehead wrinkles. Fortunately, there are a number of injectable formulas available today that can smooth out your forehead lines so you can maintain your youthful appearance for years to come. No two formulas are better at treating the underlying cause of forehead wrinkles than Botox Cosmetic and Dysport.
What are Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are non-invasive injectables that diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Both contain the same main ingredient: botulinum toxin, a type of neurotoxin that blocks muscle contractions. Botox and Dysport work by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin that cause dynamic wrinkles to form. Dynamic wrinkles are those caused by muscle movement and facial expression.
Botox and Dysport are both FDA-approved to treat a range of different conditions, but they’re best-known as cosmetic treatments. Botox Cosmetic is FDA-approved for treating moderate to severe forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet around the eyes. Dysport is also FDA-approved for minimizing the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
The main differences between Botox and Dysport are found in their particle size and the amounts of trace proteins in each formula. These factors affect the dosage and diffusion rates, but the differences are relatively minor. Both formulas provide a safe and temporary treatment for minimizing the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles in the forehead area.
Botox Cosmetic and Dysport for forehead wrinkles
If you’re considering Dysport or Botox for forehead wrinkles, you may be interested in knowing a little more about how they work. We’ll start with a brief anatomy lesson focusing on the frontalis muscles.
The frontalis muscles are thin, wide muscles that extend from the top of the skull down the forehead to where they attach to the eyebrows and the top of the nose. The main function of the frontalis muscles is to raise the eyebrows and wrinkle the forehead, and they play an important role in facial expression. Other skeletal muscles attach to bone, but because the frontalis muscles attach to other muscles skin, the more you use them, the more likely they are to cause wrinkles. Forehead wrinkles are caused by contracting the frontalis muscle. People with very expressive faces tend to develop forehead wrinkles earlier than those with less expressive faces.
So how do Botox and Dysport address this? When injected into the forehead area, the botulinum toxin weakens or relaxes the muscles so that they no longer contract. As the frontalis muscles relax, the dynamic wrinkles disappear. It’s important to note that neither Botox or Dysport address static wrinkles, such as those caused by sun damage and loss of skin elasticity. For this reason, some people opt to combine their Botox or Dysport treatment with injectable fillers that minimize the appearance of wrinkles by plumping up the skin beneath, but this is certainly not necessary. Most people find satisfaction and renewed confidence with Botox or Dysport alone.
