10 Tips for Healthy Holiday Eating

One thing most of us have in common is that we want to look and feel our best. But sometimes, no matter how much we want it, we end up making choices in the holiday season that undo the hard work we’ve done in the months prior. At Siti Med Spa, some of our smartest and most-dedicated-to-health clients use the carrot-on-the-stick method to help keep them on track during the holidays. They choose a treatment they want and promise it to themselves if they can make it through to the New Year without putting on extra pounds.

One of the most popular treatments our clients have their sights on this year is JuVaShape body contouring and cellulite treatment. This innovative procedure uses radiofrequency technology to disrupt the cell-wall membranes of fat cells, resulting in tighter, smoother skin, an increase in collagen production, a decrease in cellulite, and overall shaping and firmness. JuVaShape is the perfect treatment for those who have successfully met their weight loss goals and want to fine-tune their appearance. It’s also a wonderful reward for a holiday season spent making healthy choices.

Ready to challenge yourself to a healthy holiday? Start with these 10 tips for healthy holiday eating!

#1. Set a goal

Set a goal and remind yourself of it often.  If your goal is to wear your sexiest and snuggest leather pants in January, then slip into them for a few minutes once a day. If your goal is to feel healthy and energetic when the holidays are over, then spend five minutes meditating on that a couple of times every day.  Reminding yourself of why you’re making healthy choices will help keep you from getting swept away by temptation in the moment.

#2. Weigh yourself daily

Whether you want to lose weight or maintain your weight during the holiday season, step onto the scale daily to keep track of how you’re doing. Seeing the result of your choices show up as a number on the scale may motivate you to amp up your workout or skip the eggnog.

#3. Fill up before you party

Eat a healthy meal at home before heading out to party. This will help you make wiser choices when it comes to splurging on rich, decadent holiday foods.

#4. Eat your veggies first

Whether you’re eating out at a restaurant or around the table at Grandma’s house for a holiday dinner, fill up on salad and vegetables first to help you avoid eating too much of the heavier main course.

#5. Prioritize exercise

Get outside for a long run or head to the gym to pump iron as often as you can. Not only will regular exercise help you burn excess calories, but it will also combat holiday stress and help you sleep better. Stress and insufficient sleep both lead to poor health choices, and exercise is the remedy for both.

#6. Splurge wisely

Staying healthy during the holidays doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to steamed broccoli and kale.  In fact, allowing an indulgence here or there may actually be the answer to staying on track.  But it’s important to splurge consciously and wisely.  In other words, maybe a few bites of a cinnamon roll on Christmas morning or a small slice of Uncle Joe’s pecan pie, but not both.

#7. Eat mindfully

To eat mindfully is to pay close attention to the experience of eating.  It means chewing your food slowly, feeling the texture, tasting the flavors, and truly taking the time to enjoy it. Eating mindfully will help slow you down and allow you to get the most enjoyment out of every bite. It will also help eliminate grazing and mindless eating, both of which result in surprise pounds.

#8. Limit alcohol consumption

Alcohol doesn’t just lower inhibitions when it comes to texting exes—it also lowers inhibitions related to food.  This means you end up piling on excess calories not only from those two holiday cocktails, but also from all the baked Brie, meatballs, and fudge drops you might not have eaten otherwise. Limiting your alcohol consumption helps fortify your healthy choices.

#9. Stay hydrated

Mild dehydration often shows up as a craving for food.  Thirst and hunger send similar signals to your brain, so you may misinterpret them. Try drinking two 8oz glasses of water before each meal. It will do double duty by keeping you hydrated and feeling full so you cut back on your portion size.

#10. Reward yourself

When you make it through the holiday season still looking great in your tight leather pants, treat yourself to JuVaShape body contouring and cellulite treatment.  Giving yourself the gift of subtle body contouring and smoother, tighter skin is the perfect way to celebrate your accomplishment. And hey, since you’ll see optimal results just in time for beach season, why not treat yourself to a teeny bikini as well? After another holiday season conquered, you’ll deserve it.
